Windows 7 cannot install to partition of the gpt format lemonsngravy jan 30, 2014, 6:25 pm i just built a new computer and decided to use my old hard drive with windows 7 and all my files on it in. Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 could install on a legacy bios using mbr. however windows 8, 8.1 and 10 were designed to install on the uefi bios using the efi bootloader and gpt. note : any repairs done to the root of a hard drive, has the possibility that the repair may go wrong.. Uefi boot or installation works if and only if the disk is gpt therefore, if windows complained that the disks were gpt, the installer was booted in bios mode, not in uefi mode, no matter what boot mode you selected in the firmware..
Convert gpt to mbr during windows 7 install here will introduce you several ways to change gpt partition to mbr. if you do fresh install windows os or reinstall system to the second disk while current system unavailable, keep the installation usb or cd/dvd inserted into the machine..
